Question 1

Is LayRails free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can design in the browser for free, and you don't even need an account to start. Jump straight into the editor and try it out.

Question 2

Does LayRails design layouts in 3D?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The editor is a full 3D viewport, so you can orbit and zoom your layout, raise track onto gradients and smooth slopes, and see how different levels sit together in space.

Question 3

Which track systems are supported?

Accepted Answer

LayRails ships with a growing catalogue of H0 track. Because parts are pure data, new manufacturers and gauges can be added without changing the editor.

Question 4

Can I design my own parts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Part Studio lets you build custom track pieces, from a simple straight to a full turnout, and save them to your own collection.

Question 5

Do I need to install anything?

Accepted Answer

No. LayRails is a web app. Open it on a laptop or desktop browser and start snapping track together.

Question 6

Can I design with other people?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Signed-in users can share a layout and edit in real time, with live cursors showing where everyone is working.

Question 7

Can I save my layouts?

Accepted Answer

Sign in to save layouts to your account, rename them, and pick up where you left off on any device. You can try the editor without an account, but your work is only saved once you sign in.
